It is hard to believe with the current craze of retro rock and roll among the music doting masses that Granero has not gotten as much credit as he perhaps deserves. But it doesn’t seem to phase Dan Granero all that much, at least not if the sounds on the album are anything to go by. From the sounds of it, it seems there wasn’t much as far as technology and machines that went into the recording. It sounds like Dan and his two mates just stepped into a studio, jammed for a couple of hours and recorded it. While in most cases it may have detrimental effects to one’s work, it is the total opposite with Can’t Stand to Lose. The sounds are straight up raw; if one was to step into a pub and listen to Dan Granero play, I’d imagine it would not sound much different at all.
This is what makes Can’t Stand to Lose worth listening to, the fact it sounds more human that most of the other stuff currently doing the rounds. I already mentioned that this guy can play guitar, but he really can play. In fact, I would even go as far as saying he is one of the best Aussie guitarists I’ve heard in quite a while. Go get em Dan.
